Shillong | A court in Meghalaya's Shillong has sentenced a man to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a girl five years ago, an official said on Tuesday.
Special POCSO Judge MK Lyngdoh on Monday pronounced Teiboklang Wahlang guilty of sexually assaulting the minor in 2020 and sentenced him to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment, they said.
The hearing of the case was last held on June 25.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 under Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
In case of default in payment, he will have to serve an additional six months in prison, according to East Khasi Hills District SP Vivek Syiem.
According to the police, the convict had assaulted the girl in 2020 and was arrested and charged with sexual assault and criminal intimidation.
He was booked under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and section 506 of the IPC.
