The martyred Phantom Dog was of Belgian Malinois breed who was born on 25 May 2020. This dog was inducted into the Indian Army on 12 August 2022. This dog was part of the White Knight Corps of the Indian Army.
How is the training?
The training of Phantom Dog, who was martyred while searching for terrorists in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir, is very difficult and challenging. The army trains these dogs in its dog training faculties set up in different parts of the country.
These dogs are trained in special tactical operations like searching in the jungle, and sanitization in an area. Not only this, they are also fully trained in many other special abilities. The dogs who join the army have three months of basic training in which they are given commands. This training goes on for three to four hours daily. However, to go on a special mission, the dog is trained for two hours each in the morning, afternoon, evening, and night. In this training, the dog is taught how to walk, what to do in case of an attack, and how to sit and obey the trainer's orders.
The training video shows that these dogs reach their target by sniffing and then attacking it. The grip of these dogs' teeth is so strong that it is not only difficult but impossible to escape from it.
Which dogs are included in the Indian Army?
All the dogs included in the Indian Army are Belgian Shepherds and Assault Barbarian. These dogs are recruited in the Indian Army at the age of two and then they are retired at the age of 10. After retirement, these dogs are sent to the old age home in Meerut here they are adopted by an army officer.
