Thane: The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has imposed strict restrictions on the transportation of construction material into the Yeoor forest area without prior permission from the TMC and registration with the Forest Department.
According to officials, construction materials can only be transported after obtaining TMC approval and registering the materials at the Forest Department’s checkpoint. A TMC official stated that Yeoor is an environmentally sensitive zone, and any construction activity requires clearance from the Urban Development Department of the civic body.
Mandatory Details at Forest Entry Point
Those granted permission must specify the type of construction material being transported and provide detailed information about the vehicles at the Forest Department’s entry checkpoint.
Action Against Illegal Commercial Establishments
In compliance with a High Court order, the TMC has also taken action against unauthorized commercial establishments in Yeoor. Of the ten illegal turf grounds built in the area, eight have already been demolished.
Survey of Unauthorized Structures Underway
Deputy Commissioner Dinesh Tayde confirmed that a survey of all unauthorized commercial structures is ongoing. The Encroachment Department, Urban Development Department, and Property Tax Department are jointly conducting physical inspections to verify whether permissions match the actual purpose of construction.
Air Force Complaints on Lighting
TMC officials confirmed receiving complaints from the Air Force about construction activities and the use of bright lighting in the area. Since high-power lights are banned in this ecologically sensitive zone, the civic body has asked Mahavitaran to exercise caution when supplying high-voltage electricity.
Warnings to Property Owners
The TMC has warned bungalow owners to avoid unnecessary lighting, loudspeakers, and firecrackers, especially in private properties located near the forest.
Past Violations and Notices Issued
In recent years, the TMC has issued notices to 188 individuals for various violations in Yeoor. Additionally, 18 cases have been registered for using loudspeakers and bursting firecrackers in violation of environmental norms.
