The opening day of Wimbledon 2025 witnessed scorching heat with the Centre Court witnessing the hottest opening day in the tournament’s 148-year history. With temperatures hitting 33°C (91°F), organisers scrambled to implement safety measures from shaded areas to increased hydration stations but the searing heat still took a toll.

Carlos Alcaraz noticed an elderly spectator struggling in the heat. Without waiting for official intervention, the defending champion signalled to tournament staff and passed a water bottle into the stands. Play paused for over 15 minutes as medical staff attended to the fan.

Alcaraz on brutal conditions at Wimbledon 2025

“Fans are not used to this weather. Sitting five hours in the sun without moving can be really hard.”
