Health authorities have stepped up monitoring and testing for COVID-19 due to an increase in influenza-like illnesses (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI), particularly in urban areas.
Officials link the mildness of Covid cases to extensive vaccination rates and the presence of natural immunity among the population.
With the increase in respiratory illnesses linked to the monsoon, differentiating between COVID-19 and the flu has become a critical clinical focus. According to report by Hindustan Times, Dr. Dhiraj Bhattad, a consultant in internal medicine at Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, stated, โBoth flu and Covid-19 can lead to symptoms like fever, sore throat, cough, cold, headache, body pain, and fatigue.โ However, the loss of taste and smell is a clear indicator of COVID-19. Notably, flu cases at present appear to exhibit more severe symptoms compared to COVID-19. This could be due to the fact that a majority of individuals have already received the Covid vaccine.
