Visakhapatnam, the coastal gem of Andhra Pradesh, is preparing to unveil a striking new icon, a glass skywalk bridge that is set to be the longest of its kind in India. Suspended high above the city on the verdant Kailasagiri Hills, the bridge promises to be the ideal mix of adrenaline, engineering marvel, and postcard-perfect views in one destination.
What makes this skywalk remarkable is not only its setting, but also the excitement it has generated even before opening. Business leader Anand Mahindra recently shared images of the bridge on X (formerly Twitter), calling it “absolutely stunning.” With characteristic wit, he admitted he would admire it from afar, citing his “complicated” relationship with heights.
He added, “This new glass skywalk in Vizag, perched over Kailasagiri Hill, is reportedly opening next week and it’s already being touted as one of the tallest of its kind in the world. Unsurprisingly, China still holds the global records for skywalk height and length, with the Zhangjiajie glass bridge placed 300 m above ground and stretching 430 m long. But Vizag’s version isn’t far behind with a vertical drop of 262 m. It looks absolutely stunning, but will it make it to my bucket list? Probably not. Heights and I have a complicated relationship.”

The engineering feat
Stretching 55 m into the air, the walkway stands 862 ft above ground level and nearly 1,000 ft above sea level. From this vantage point, visitors can take in the shimmering Bay of Bengal, the sprawling Eastern Ghats, and Vizag’s skyline. A dramatic vertical drop of 262 metres beneath the deck ensures a thrill that few attractions in the country can rival.
The bridge has been built with precision: German-engineered tempered laminated glass, three layers of 40 mm panels, and a steel framework weighing 40 tonnes. It can withstand winds up to 250 kmph and hold 500 kg per square metre, assuring safety without compromising the thrill.
To maintain safety and comfort, access will be limited to 40 visitors at a time, with each group allowed 5–10 minutes on the deck. Entry fees are expected between INR 250 and INR 300, keeping it affordable for both local tourists and international travellers.

The skywalk is the result of a joint effort by SSM Shipping & Logistics (Vizag), Bharat Mata Ventures of Kerala, also creators of the Vagamon Glass Bridge, and the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA). By surpassing Vagamon’s 38-metre bridge, Vizag’s structure now holds the distinction of being India’s longest.
The attraction is designed to offer an adventurous yet serene escape. On top of that, a spot offering sweeping 360° panoramas of sea, hills, and city is something that will be thrilling for visitors and locals alike. Apart from all these, tricolour-themed night-time illuminations will further make it a photogenic spot for travellers and content creators.
