To protest against the horrifying Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, various markets across Delhi are likely to remain closed on Friday, April 25. It is also a tribute to those who lost their lives in the attack. The news was confirmed on Thursday by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) that numerous leading trade associations in Delhi have called for a “complete shutdown” of commercial businesses in the capital.
CAIT in an official statement mentioned, “The brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of innocent citizens, has deeply shaken the trading community. As a tribute to the victims and in solidarity with national efforts against terrorism, Delhi’s trade bodies have called for a peaceful market bandh on Friday,”
More than 100 markets in Delhi are expected to remain shut down today. On Thursday, members of CTI and more than 100 trade associations also wore black armbands and gathered at Connaught Place to protest.
Affected markets
CTI Vice President Rahul Adlakha stated that traders are expressing strong dissatisfaction. According to the statement, markets backing Friday’s shutdown include Sadar Bazar, Bhagirath Place, Gandhi Nagar, Naya Bazar, Khari Baoli, Chawri Bazar, Hindustan Mercantile (Chandni Chowk), Jama Masjid, and Hauz Qazi.
CAIT has further appealed to traders to participate in the shutdown and keep their shops shut in a peaceful manner. It has also urged Delhi Police and local authorities to maintain law and order to ensure public safety.
No official notification for Bandh
However, there is no official notification from the Delhi government or Delhi Police yet about citywide Bandh. Therefore government offices, banks, and most private offices are expected to remain open.
There won’t be any effect on public transport, including the Delhi Metro, buses, and auto-rickshaws. These will operate normally throughout the day. Commuters have been advised that there are no planned disruptions in transportation.

The bandh call comes in response to the terror attack that took place on April 22 in the Baisaran region near Pahalgam. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Kashmir attracting travellers worldwide. As per reports, terrorists opened fire on tourists enjoying in the valley with their families and friends resulting in the death of 28 people. The incident has left widespread outrage and grief across the country.
