Shefali Jariwala, known to many as the Kaanta Laga girl, is no more. She died on 27 June 2025 after a sudden cardiac arrest. She was only 42. Her husband, Parag Tyagi, tried to save her. He and three others rushed her to Bellevue Multispecialty Hospital in Mumbai. Doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Parag was seen outside the hospital, silent and broken. A video shows him in his car, hand over his face, hiding tears as cameras clicked.

Journalist Vickey Lalwani first confirmed her death online. He wrote, “Shefali Jariwala, the Kaanta Laga girl, is no more. The reason of her death is not known yet to this journalist, but I can confirm that she was brought dead to Bellevue Multispeciality hospital… Shefali was rushed to the hospital by her husband and three others.”

Love after pain
Shefali’s life was more than the fame that made her a household name. Before Parag, she was married to Harmeet Singh of Meet Brothers fame. They tied the knot in 2004. The marriage ended in 2009.

She once told Times Now, “It is very important to understand that you are not being appreciated. Not every kind of violence is physical. There is a lot of mental violence that also happens, and you are very unhappy in your life…”

It was a dark chapter. But it taught her to choose herself. She credited her upbringing for giving her strength. She once said how crucial financial independence was to her freedom.

Meeting Parag: A second beginning
After the heartbreak, love found her again. She met Parag at a friend’s dinner party. Talking to Times Now, she recalled, “I was single at that time. It was an arranged sort of a date. We really liked each other a lot and hit it off instantly. Parag and I are very similar and different in many ways. I think we kind of balance each other out.”

Slow talks turned into warm chats. Warm chats turned into care. He didn’t rush. She opened up. He stayed.

More than glamour: The real Shefali
Parag saw the real her — not the on-screen bold image. In an interview with Masala, Parag said, “Shefali is a sweetheart. When her music video was out, people had another image of her, but she was completely the opposite of her screen image. She is a girl any guy would love to have as a wife. She is very caring, and it shows. To judge a person, you need to look into what is happening in his or her home. She loves her parents and looks after them like a son would. She also looks after my parents.”

This bond only grew stronger.

They married on 12 August 2014. Their wedding had been delayed due to Parag’s father’s health. She brought his parents to Mumbai. She cared for them as her own. Festivals, family, fitness — they did it all together.

Fans loved them for it. Many saw them as a couple who fought storms side by side.
