Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's stay at the crease short-lived in comeback match against Australia

The much awaited return for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma was short-lived at the crease as the two veteran batters failed to score big in the first ODI against Australia at Perth.

Fans were left disappionted after the two former captains, who are playing an international match for India after eight months, looked scratchy and were dismissed within the first seven overs of the innings after India were asked to bat first by Mitchell Marsh.

India found themselves in deep trouble as the top three star batters of captain Shubman Gill and the two comeback men, Kohli and Sharma.

Josh Hazlewood gave the early breakthrough with the wicket of former captain Sharma, who was dismissed for eight runs off 14 balls with a back of the length ball that generated extra bounce to catch the edge of the bat and carry to second slip.

Meanwhile, Kohli was dismissed for an eight-ball duck as he mistimed a drive and was caught at cover while facing Mitchell Starc. Newly appointed skipper, Gill, was stranded down the leg off the bowling of Nathan Ellis.

India were struggling at 25/3 in 8.5 overs before rain stopped the play with Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel at the crease.
