Send Push
As Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) prepare to clash in the IPL 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the spotlight isn't only on the trophy. The race for individual honours, Orange Cap for the top run-scorer and Purple Cap for the highest wicket-taker, has largely settled, but a few players in action still have a shot at climbing the ranks.

Orange Cap:

Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan is all but assured of the Orange Cap, having racked up 759 runs in 15 matches. RCB’s Virat Kohli, the only finalist in the top five, is fifth with 614 runs. A big knock in the final could help Kohli consolidate his place among the top scorers this season.

Here’s the complete Orange Cap leaderboard before the final:

Purple Cap:
The Purple Cap race is tighter. Gujarat Titans’ Prasidh Krishna leads with 25 wickets, but RCB’s Josh Hazlewood, who has 21 wickets from just 11 matches, could leapfrog to the top with a five-wicket haul in the final. While a tall ask, his recent form makes it a subplot worth watching.

All eyes on Ahmedabad
History awaits one of two teams as Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) prepare to battle for their first Indian Premier League title, but only one will leave the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad with the coveted trophy.

Both franchises have yet to taste IPL glory. RCB, despite making it to the final three times (2009, 2011, and 2016), have come agonisingly close but never clinched the crown. For Punjab Kings, this marks their first final appearance in over a decade. The last time they reached this stage was in 2014, when they fell short against Kolkata Knight Riders.

The rivalry between these two sides is finely balanced. In 36 IPL encounters so far, Punjab and Bengaluru have shared an equal number of victories,18 each. This season’s path to the final has been dramatic. RCB earned their spot by defeating Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 with an eight-wicket win, powered by Philip Salt’s commanding 56-run innings. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings secured their place in the final by chasing down a challenging target against Mumbai Indians, thanks largely to a brilliant 87-run knock by captain Shreyas Iyer.
