In a move to simplify traffic fine payments in Delhi, the transport department is planning to introduce WhatsApp as a new tool for sending and paying traffic challans. With the recent tender issued by the Delhi government , the process will soon allow traffic violators to receive e-challans directly through WhatsApp, which will include a convenient payment link.
Delhi’s WhatsApp challan system: How will it work
On average, 1,000 to 1,500 e-challans are issued daily, targeting traffic violations . Once this system is active, violators will receive a WhatsApp message detailing the offense, fine amount, and a link to pay instantly through popular UPI platforms like Google Pay, BHIM, or other gateways. The system is designed to send messages in both Hindi and English, ensuring ease of use for a broader audience.
This enhanced setup will streamline multiple notifications, from the initial fine notice to reminders, payment confirmations, and receipts. The framework will even support various media formats like images, PDFs, and videos, enhancing transparency and accessibility.
Delhi’s WhatsApp challan system: Convenience vs the current system
Currently, traffic fines in Delhi are processed via the Parivahan e-challan website. But with the rollout of this WhatsApp-based solution, paying fines should be as simple as making an online purchase, with instant alerts for new fines or pending dues sent directly to the user’s WhatsApp.
