Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance India launch date revealed: Drops V8, gets a 2.0-litre engine

Mercedes -AMG is all set to launch the new Mercedes C63 S E Performance next month i.e., November 11, 2024. The new Mercedes-AMG C 63 will sit above C 43 and replace the V8 with a new plug-in hybrid system that pairs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with a rear-mounted electric motor. The new C 63 will rival the BMW M3 and Audi RS5 in the Indian market and is expected to carry a price tag of more than Rs 1.2 crores (ex-showroom).

Talking about the engine first, the new Mercedes C63 S E Performance will be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine which puts out 475hp of power. It comes paired with an electric motor which additionally puts out 203hp. The total output stands at a whopping 680hp . The e-motor will draw power from a 6.1 kWh battery pack, and Mercedes claims it has an electric-only range of up to 13 km.

To reduce lag, the turbocharger features an electric motor powered by the 400V electrical system, enhancing turbine responsiveness—an innovation inspired by Mercedes' Formula 1 technology. The engine comes paired with a 9-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox which sends power to all four wheels via a 4Matic AWD system. The C63 also gets four-wheel steering, enabling the rear wheels to turn up to 2.5 degrees in the opposite direction of the front wheels at speeds up to 100 kph, or up to 0.7 degrees in the same direction at higher speeds.

In terms of design, the new Mercedes-AMG features an AMG grille with vertical slats and active shutters that open automatically based on the engine’s cooling. It also features 76mm-wider front wheel arches over the regular C-Class and it gets redesigned bumpers, the C 63 is 50mm longer than the C-Class. It’s offered with 19-inch or optional 20-inch wheels. The interior design is the same as that of the standard C-Class, featuring a large touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster. It adopts an all-black theme and includes an AMG-specific steering wheel, enhancing the standard sedan’s layout.
