With October bringing in strong festive season demand, India's top automakers celebrated notable sales figures, achieving new milestones in both SUV and overall passenger vehicle segments. Here, let’s take a look at how the companies stacked up against each other in the month of October 2024.
Leading the pack, Maruti Suzuki India achieved its highest-ever monthly sales, recording a total of 2,06,434 units. This included domestic sales of 1,63,130 units, sales to other OEMs at 10,136 units, and exports reaching an impressive 33,168 units.
In another significant achievement, Hyundai Motor India reported total sales of 70,078 units for October, marking its third-highest monthly sales. This included 55,568 domestic sales and 14,510 exports, a 2 percent increase over the same month last year. Hyundai’s export growth was particularly notable, rising 6.7 percent from October 2023.
Mahindra & Mahindra saw its highest-ever monthly sales for SUVs, recording 54,504 domestic units—a 25 percent year-on-year growth—pushing total vehicle sales to 96,648 units, including exports, reflecting a robust 20 percent YoY increase.
While other brands saw growth, Tata Motors faced a slight decline in the domestic passenger vehicle segment, with sales slipping to 48,131 units - a marginal 0.42 percent drop compared to the same month last year.
Kia India registered impressive growth with 28,545 units delivered in October 2024, reflecting a 30 percent increase from October 2023. The recently-launched Carnival Limousine Plus resonated with festive buyers, as 54 customers celebrated Diwali with this new model. Kia’s exports also saw strong demand with 2,042 units shipped abroad, contributing to a robust month for the automaker.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor continued its upward trajectory, achieving a 41 percent increase in total sales to 30,845 units in October, with 28,138 units sold domestically and 2,707 exported. Toyota’s entire model range enjoyed strong sales momentum, the company said.
Meanwhile, JSW MG Motor India reported a 31 percent increase in wholesales, totaling 7,045 units, with new energy vehicles (NEVs) comprising over 70 percent of October’s sales. The recent launch of the electric crossover Windsor has been well-received, contributing 3,116 units in its first month alone.
On the other hand, Honda Cars India faced a 23 percent decrease in total sales, delivering 10,080 units in October 2024 compared to 13,083 units the previous year. Domestic sales dropped 41 percent to 5,546 units, although exports showed a favorable 4,534 units, up from 3,683 in October 2023.
