Over 200 flights, including IndiGo and Air India cancelled across India

Air travel across northern and western India experienced disruption on Wednesday, after the Indian armed forces carried out missile strikes under Operation Sindoor.

The action, targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, led to temporary airspace restrictions and airport closures of at least 18 airports.

According to Business Today, airports in Srinagar, Leh, Jammu, Amritsar, Pathankot, Chandigarh, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Shimla, Dharamshala, Jamnagar, and several others were temporarily closed as a precautionary measure.

In the aftermath of this, more than 200 flights were cancelled, with IndiGo alone suspending nearly 160-165 scheduled services. Additionally, IndiGo stated due to the government notification on airspace restrictions.

"Over 165 IndiGo flights from multiple airports (Amritsar, Bikaner, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Gwalior, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kishangarh, Leh, Rajkot, and Srinagar) are cancelled until 0529 hrs IST of 10 May, 2025," the statement noted.

They also added that the affected customers can either reschedule or request full refunds.

IndiGo, Air India and SpiceJet cancel their flights

Air India also announced extensive flight cancellations, stating that services to and from Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot would remain suspended until 05:29 IST on May 10, following instructions from aviation authorities.

The airline added that passengers would be eligible for one-time rebooking fee waivers or full refunds.

At least 35 flights were cancelled at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, India's busiest airport, with disruptions affecting both the domestic and international operations.

Moreover, American Airlines and other foreign carriers pulled services from the capital. Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) confirmed disruptions through a post on X, “Kindly note, due to changing airspace conditions, some flights have been impacted at Delhi Airport.”
