Skincare tips to protect your skin from pollution after Diwali

Send Push

During the festive season, particularly Diwali, our skincare often takes a backseat as we put on makeup and indulge a little too much in sweet or oily food for which we have to pay the price after the celebrations are over. The somewhat careless behaviours often lead to breakouts or acne which further get irritated by the rapid surge in pollution as the air quality worsens and AQI hovers in the 'poor' to 'severe' zone.

To avoid skin damage and rejuvenate our skin after Diwali festivities, it is important that we follow a proper skincare routine that helps us avoid dull-looking skin and return to our natural glow. Take a look at these skin care tips that you should be following on a daily basis to maintain your radiant skin.

Since the air is filled with microscopic pollutants that can greatly damage your skin, it is important that you apply a heavy layer of moisturizer to always maintain a sort of physical barrier between your skin and the environment. Always keep a moisturizer handy and keep reapplying it after every few hours to lock in that natural moisture of your skin.

Never skip sunblock

The smog-filled air has a higher chance of badly affecting your skin, to avoid that from happening apply a sunblock with at least an SPF 30 as part of your morning skincare. A sunscreen helps prevent sun damage and UV rays which can lead to dry and dull skin. Make sure that you touch up your sunblock after every 2-3 hours. You can keep a sunscreen stick on your person to make this process easier.

Face masks and gentle scrubs are a great way of exfoliating your skin to get rid of the dirt, grime and dead skin cells from your face. Take a look at the easy and quick face masks you can make at home with natural ingredients depending on your skin type and apply to your face twice a week.

For oily skin

To control the production of excess oil and clean your skin - a multani mitti (Fuller’s Earth) and rose water face mask made by mixing equal quantities of both ingredients, works greatly. Just apply the face mask on your skin and gently wipe it off with lukewarm water once it has dried.

For combination or normal skin

If you have combination skin mix two tablespoons of yoghurt and 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder and apply the creamy paste on your skin to prevent patches of dry and dull skin. Once the paste has dried, wipe it off after gently removing it with lukewarm water.

For dry skin

If you have dry skin the increased pollutants in the air can cause itchiness, redness and flakey skin. To avoid that, mix equal quantities of fresh aloe vera gel and honey, and apply the mixture on your face and rinse it off after 15-20 minutes.

By following a dedicated routine, you can prevent any damage due to pollution after the Diwali festive season and maintain your skin health as you prepare for the upcoming wedding season.
