The committee constituted by the central government to review the National Testing Agency has submitted its report to the Ministry of Education. The seven-member committee was constituted under the chairmanship of former ISRO chief Dr. K Radhakrishnan. After the NEET UG paper leak, questions were constantly being raised on the functioning of the National Examination Agency (NTA), after which this committee was formed for review.
The committee has recommended conducting the NEET UG exam in hybrid mode with multiple phases and online. At the same time, the committee has also recommended several reforms in the CUET exam. Which includes reducing the choice of subjects available in CUET.
The option of selection of subjects should be limited.
According to the report of Indian Express, the committee on CUET has suggested limiting the selection of subjects for the candidates. At present, in the upcoming CUET exam conducted by NTA, students are given the option to choose from more than 50 subjects, out of which the student is allowed to appear in the examination in 6 subjects. That is, students can choose any 6 subjects out of 50 for the exam.
Why was the recommendation to reduce the number of subjects made?
According to media reports, due to so many subjects, many sets of question papers have to be made and the number of people participating in it increases. Due to this maintaining the security and confidentiality of the examination is a challenging task. If the number of subjects is reduced, it will be easy to maintain the confidentiality and security of the exam.
Who is included in the committee?
Along with Radhakrishnan, the expert committee includes former AIIMS director Randeep Guleria, Hyderabad Central Vice Chancellor BJ Rao, Professor Emeritus Ramamurthy K of the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Madras, Karmayogi Bharat Board member Pankaj Bansal, IIT Delhi Professor Aditya Mittal and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Education Govind Jaiswal.
