Are you aspiring for a government job in India’s paramilitary forces? Here's some good news! The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Assam Rifles are all set to conduct a massive recruitment drive to fill vacant positions. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, revealed in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha that as of January 1, 2025, there are 1.09 lakh vacant posts in CAPFs and Assam Rifles. Out of these, recruitment for 72,689 positions is already underway.
CAPF Vacancy Update 2025: Vacancy Numbers and Force-Wise StrengthAccording to Minister Rai, the total sanctioned strength of these forces has increased from 10,04,980 in 2021 to 10,67,110 by January 2025. Despite this rise, a substantial 1,09,868 posts remain vacant due to reasons such as retirements, resignations, promotions, deaths, formation of new battalions, and creation of additional posts.
When asked if the number of vacancies was concerning, the minister responded with a firm "No", clarifying that vacancies are a regular and continuous process and not an alarming issue.
Government Initiatives to Speed Up RecruitmentThe Ministry of Home Affairs is actively working to accelerate the recruitment process across paramilitary forces. To streamline hiring, the Ministry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for faster recruitment of Constable (General Duty) posts.
In addition, the Ministry is coordinating with the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), SSC, and respective paramilitary forces to ensure all vacant posts are filled promptly.
Measures to Expedite the ProcessTo expedite the filling of vacancies, the government has taken several crucial steps:
-
Timely convening of Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meetings to promote eligible personnel.
-
Reducing time in medical examinations during recruitment.
-
Lowering cut-off marks to allow more candidates to qualify for the Constable and General Duty categories.
Further, directives have been issued to all CAPFs and Assam Rifles to fill non-general duty posts within strict timelines.
