Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans issues show demand as dance twist leaves fans divided

Send Push

's Wynne Evans issued a show demand on Saturday night's episode after he performed a dance twist.

During Saturday's episode, which was icons themed in a One show first, the remaining 10 celebrities and their professional dance partners performed a routine accompanied by a track from a legendary singer.

Continuing the celebration of musical icons, the professional dancers will perform a medley with Johannes Radebe channelling the singer's alter-ego, Sasha Fierce, during Sunday’s results show.

During the episode, Wynne and professional partner Katya Jones paid to Shirley Bassey in a Rumba to This is My Life, where opera singer Wynne decided to perform the last part in a powerful surprise twist.

Host Tess Daly was left floored as she quipped: "That blew the hair off the back of my arms, that was something, we know Wynne can sing!"

Meanwhile, during the judges' feedback, Anton Du Beke declared: "The best ending to a number I've ever seen in my entire life, unbelievable!"

However, as he got mixed feedback from the judges, Wynne was quick to issue a demand as he joked: "Can we just pretend it's a song contestant instead, is that okay?" Later, Wynne learnt he had received an incredible 30 points.

Taking to , now X, viewers were left divided over the surprise twist as they pointed out it's a dancing competition, not a singing show. One person said: "It’s not the ? #Strictly", a different account wrote: "didn’t realise I was watching x factor #strictly", another put: "It's not a singing contest #strictly" while a different account added: "Someone wants to tell Wynn he doesn't get points for singing!"

However, one person said: "Really loved Wynne's routine & the powerful & inspiring message it gave, not to mention the amazing vocal finish at the end! He should be really proud! #Strictly" while a different account added: "Wynne was amazing! #Strictly!"

It comes as professional dancer Lauren Oakley, who currently does not have a celebrity pairing on this year's series of the One dance competition, has stepped in to dance with JLS star JB Gill, 37, after his partner Amy Dowden fell ill during filming last weekend.

Amy, 34, is said to be "doing much better" after a health scare forced her to miss Sunday's results programme after being taken to hospital and she has skipped this week of the competition.

Strictly Come Dancing continues this Saturday on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
