Liam Gallagher fumes over Oasis support act criticism ahead of reunion tour

Criticism over the news of ' support acts for their reunion tour prompted a reaction from this week.

It was announced in August that brothers Liam, 51, and , 57, who last performed together in 2009, would reunite . They have since unveiled on the tour in the and next year. It's been confirmed that Cast will be a support act, alongside the Verve's .

Although there's excitement over the tour, some fans have expressed disappointment that Oasis have only announced "legacy" bands from the 1990s. There have been calls for the tour to include more recent acts like Blossoms.

Addressing the support acts, one person wrote on X, formerly known as , alongside a promotional poster for the tour on Monday: "Don't get me wrong… it's Oasis, it's gonna be f***ing incredible but, they had such a good opportunity to build a lineup of legacy acts as well as current bands taking the scene by storm. Not every aspect has to be nostalgic."

The tweet has more than 400 likes but also prompted disagreement in the comments, including from Liam himself. He replied by telling the fan that the tour isn't singing contest the . He wrote: "It's not the f***ing X FACTOR ya Bumbaclots."

It isn't the first time that Liam has addressed the criticism. Last week he tweeted: "To all the folk who are crying about us not showing love to the young bands and not letting them support there's LEVELS to this game and I'm afraid 99 p cent of ya are way off LF***ING x."

The fan isn't alone in having questioned the line-up of support acts. Sharing their thoughts, someone else tweeted recently: "Oasis fully bottled it with their support acts in the UK [...] I'm really surprised they went for the legacy acts that they did."

Another said: "It's a bit s**t of them not to help elevate some newer bands. Blossoms and Lottery Winners would have been perfect support for them." A third commented: "No offence at all to Cast or Ashcroft, but there have been great musicians and bands since the '90s. [Oasis could have] given newer, lesser-known or local artists a chance at those massive venues."

Not everyone is unimpressed though, with one person tweeting: "I'm over the moon with Cast and Ashcroft ... Quality musicians and amazing music from a time when Oasis were at their peak." They added: "This is a nostalgia gig after all."

Someone else said: "If Richard Ashcroft isn't good enough for you then I'm afraid music isn't for you." Whilst another fan wrote recently: "It's great they have backed their loyal friends instead of trying to be trendy. It's a nostalgia gig."

"Not their responsibility [to elevate newer bands]. I am much happier seeing two acts that I grew up listening to than acts I've never heard of," a fourth said. Whilst one person wrote: "They're just reviving bands from the 90s."

And some fans have speculated that more support acts could be announced in the future. One person wrote in a tweet this week: "I'm certain there's got to be more." Another teased on the platform: "People are getting so wound up about this! [...] There are going to be more than two support slots. Oasis always championed a great line up at their bigger events with newer bands. This won't be any different!"
