The Spice Girls were the embodiment of being a strong woman to a generation as they appeared to be a tight unit.
Their Girl Power slogan implied they were all about female bonds and sticking together, however things would fall apart for them as a band after a confession of an affair pulled their friendships apart. When Mel Brown claimed she had lesbian sex with bandmate things took a sour turn for the pair.
Geri insisted that they hadn't been involved in any kind of sexual relationship despite the fact that rumours that the girls had been exceptionally close had swirled for years. But when Mel B confirmed they'd been sexually intimate in an interview with Piers Morgan, Melanie Chisholm was in the audience and gasped.
However, Geri was absolutely outraged by the claims and at the time released a statement saying it was “very disappointing to read about all these rumours again”. She added via her representative: "She would like [the fans] to know that what has been reported recently is simply not true and has been very hurtful to her family.”
Geri had a long history of falling out with her bandmates - Mel B, Mel C, Emma Bunton and - and when she quit the Spice Girls in May 1998 there was a feeling of resentment from her former girl gang. Victoria received the call from the group’s lawyer, Andrew Thompson. And she thought it was a joke.
She said: “Andrew said, ‘No, this is serious, Victoria. Geri is leaving the band. She's had enough. She doesn't want to come back’. I'd known Geri for four years, we'd shared a room, we'd been through the most extraordinary experiences of our lives together.
"She was one of my best friends. And now she had walked out without a word. What I felt was anger at the selfishness of it all, then betrayal.” Meanwhile Mel B told that Geri's departure had left her desperately upset over what had happened.
She said: ”What bothered me was not the fact she left, although that did upset me of course, but the fact she didn't come to me. I’m one of her best friends, I mean all of them we have strong friendships.I felt angry and then sad.
"We’re all about our sisterhood and Girl Power so to think that one of our sisters got that bad to remove herself was really daunting."
