Jamie Carragher has told after a frantic approach helped secure Liverpool’s victory over Brighton.
The Reds completed a thanks to goals from and . The win sent Liverpool back to the top of the as they made the most of both and losing on the road.
Having endured a frustrating first half, with since admitting that Brighton was the better side in the opening 45 minutes, it had looked like Liverpool would be going the same way as their title rivals and missing the chance to capitalize.
Two goals in the space of just over a minute though saw the Reds turn things around, with Anfield legend spotting something in the way that they took the lead that reminded him of Slot’s predecessor.
Analyzing the passage after play after Gakpo’s equalizer on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher said: “I think when that goal goes in, there’s almost an inevitability that Liverpool will go on and get another goal really quickly.
“Arne Slot didn’t talk about tactics, he spoke about energy. The crowd is now up, this is going wild, people are pressing all over the place.”
“It’s only ball in play, would you believe, for 64 seconds before Liverpool score again. Look at , like a mad man, this is not what Arne Slot wants, this is . We were told it was going to be more controlled.
“This is the Anfield factor, Arne Slot down here, he doesn’t want to see this, end-to-end football.
“There’s no thought of ‘can we be a bit more controlled?’ No, let’s go up the other end, and let’s go quickly.”
Carragher added: “There’s something about it, the Anfield factor. We know it happens, I felt it as a player, and it’s really interesting. When Arne Slot came in, there was talk about it being slightly different football to Jurgen Klopp, being more controlled.
“I played for two defensive managers, [Gerard] Houllier and Rafa Benitez. It doesn’t matter what style you have, what system you want to play, at times, when you’re a manager of Liverpool football club, Anfield just takes you on a ride, sweeps your feet away, and basically you cannot control that as a manager.”
Liverpool.com says: Slot obviously wants to control games more, but given what his players have become used to over the years under Klopp, sometimes he just has to revert to type. We’ve already seen those quick passages of play before this season, and it’s good to have that in the back pocket when plan A isn’t quite coming off.
As well as things are going at the moment, it might be a while before we truly see the real Slot style of football. As long as he keeps winning games though, no one will be too bothered!
