Jamie Carragher makes Cole Palmer feelings clear with six-word Chelsea message

Sky Sports pundit has labelled the best player in the right now. The midfielder impressed during the first half against Newcastle on Sunday afternoon.

Palmer started the game in fine fettle, and thought he'd given the Blues the lead within the opening four minutes at Stamford Bridge. He ran in behind the back line before slotting the ball beyond Nick Pope, in the build-up.

It was an unfortunate moment for the 22-year-old, but he continued to probe and produced a moment of magic which helped put Chelsea in front on 18 minutes. Palmer collected the ball inside his own half - before clipping an inch-perfect pass behind the Newcastle defence to Pedro Neto. He drove past Fabian Schar and squared across to an unmarked Nicolas Jackson, who slotted into the net from 12 yards.

Carragher couldn't help but praise Palmer for his contribution after Chelsea's opening goal. The former Liverpool defender said on X, formerly known as Twitter: "Cole Palmer's pass," alongside a pair of eyes emoji and fire emoji. "Best in the PL right now!"

when Newcastle equalised in the 32nd minute. Lewis Hall whipped in a fizzing cross to the back post for Alexander Isak - who did the rest and tapped home from close-range to give the Magpies their first goal from open play in 460 minutes.

After an end-to-end finish to the first half, Chelsea started the second period on the front foot and regained the lead in the 47th minute - and that man Palmer finally grabbed a goal. The England international drove towards the edge of the area before driving the ball beyond Pope at his near post.

Palmer has enjoyed a brilliant start to the campaign for the Blues. He had scored six times and added five assists in eight matches heading into the clash with Newcastle - the joint-most goal contributions in the Premier League this season alongside Manchester City's Erling Haaland.
