"People talk about not being there and they seem like more of a team," he told Optus Sport's The Kelly and Wright Show.

"And they are more of a team: Vitinha in the midfield alongside Fabian Ruiz in the midfield, amazing, and up front with the pace and creativity they’ve got.

"The goalkeeper is a very good goalkeeper, but I do feel like you can get something out of him."

Widely considered one of the world's top goalkeepers, Donnarumma made several vital saves to withstand a late Aston Villa surge at Villa Park in the quarter-final.

He carried that form into Tuesday night’s match, producing four first-half saves to deny , Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, and Jakub Kiwior.

Prior to the match, addressed Wright's comments, telling Amazon Prime Video: "Look, he's human, he makes mistakes as does every goalkeeper, as do we all.

"Whether you miss chances or whether he makes mistakes, coming from a cross or whatever - he's human. There's no doubt that you can't take away from him being an outstanding goalkeeper."

Following Donnarumma's string of saves, Shearer added: "We were talking before the game about the importance of having a top goalkeeper in your team like him. They make a huge difference and what a save that is from Martinelli.

"He just tries to curl it into that far post but he's alert and he gets down to his left-hand side and he sees a huge figure in front of you when you're looking at him, staring down at him, it's a great save."
