Arne Slot agrees with Virgil van Dijk over Liverpool's 'problem' in contract talks

Liverpool manager isn't worried about the contract situation hanging over three of the Reds stars - as long as they keep performing on the pitch.

, and are all out of contract at the end of the 2024-25, but all three have continued to feature under Slot. The former Feyenoord boss has been asked about the trio on multiple occasions, previously insisting there are no updates.

Van Dijk and Salah both scored in Liverpool's last match, , while Alexander-Arnold was involved in the latter's equaliser. Slot's team are up against this weekend, where they will be aiming for back-to-back wins after .

Reds captain Van Dijk has admitted he doesn't know what lies ahead while no definitive movement has been made on the contract. And the boss agrees with his skipper.

"[The] contract situation becomes a problem if players don't perform as well as they are now," Slot told reporters at his pre-Brighton press conference. "At the moment all three are in good place performingreally really well.

"There are ongoing discussion with the people Virgil says he has to talk to, and that's not me as you know. I talk to him about other things. Virgil is completely right that he doesn't know what his future is if he hasn't signed the contract yet."

Speaking in October, Van Dijk said: “I can say obviously discussions are ongoing, but I don't know, we will see what happens in the future. My very full focus is on Liverpool, wanting to win games that are ahead of me and nothing else."

Slot's comments come after Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas admitted the Reds will miss all three of their stars if they move on. “It’s up to them what they will do," the Greek international told Sky Sports. "For sure, the guys who leave, we’ll miss them a lot because all of them are here for many years.

“They know what they want from the future, but their thinking is always to enjoy every moment here. I think that’s the most important thing for them, and you don’t know what the future will bring.”

Alexander-Arnold has been heavily linked with , who are in the market for a right-back as they seek a long-term successor to Dani Carvajal. Salah has been the subject of Saudi interest in the past, while Van Dijk - the eldest of the trio - has also been mentioned in connection with a move to the gulf state.

Van Dijk called for calm on his own situation after the game. “Let's see what happens towards the end of the season," he said. "I'm enjoying my football, physically and mentally. Keep enjoying the game because it's a beautiful game that we play and I play.”
